(More customer reviews)When we renovated our Victorian era kitchen, I had fantasies of double ovens, islands and acres of counter space. Alas, it was not to be. Within the existing space, possible configurations of appliances were limited. The Advantium 120 was a good solution.
Mounted over the stove, the Advantium is a smallish second oven, a convection oven (Speedcook) and a microwave. The conventional oven and microwave functions work splendidly, but the 120 convection oven is just not powerful enough to cook significantly faster than the conventional oven. It's great for pizza, though, as Speedcook cooks from both the bottom and the top, creating a nice crispy crust, just not any faster than the regular oven cooks it. Having a second oven available has been wonderful for entertaining and I can't think how we did family Christmas before.
It's fairly easy to keep clean and in eight years we've had few mechanical problems with it. The door handle did come off after a couple of years and was expensive to replace, but the replacement has worked just fine. I've read online warnings that interrupting the microwave function will cause severe problems and we try not to do so, but a certain amount is unavoidable and we've had no problems. Bonus features are a start delay/time cook, a nice timer, preset Speedcook and microwave settings and the ability to enter settings for your own recipes.
Our cat knocked the glass microwave plate off the counter and broke it, but I found a replacement on eBay for about $50. We used a stoneware plate until the replacement arrived and it worked just fine, so suit yourself.
When the Advantium 120 dies I think I'll take a deep breath and spring for the 240. I think the added power for the convection function might be worth it. These appliances are expensive, but a bargain compared with adding square footage to the kitchen.
