I have owned my Wavebox since it first became available late 2008. I love this thing but the cigarette lighter cable melted a few weeks later. So, we got in touch with customer service and they said they'd send a new cable right away. It's March 2009 (5 months later) and I still have not received the cable. I have been using the battery clamp in the mean time, with faster heating times so it's been great. I use the microwave every weekday for lunch. Just last week, as my food was cooking, smoke began bellowing out of the cooling fans and it smelled like a circuit board was melting. The unit still works but the amount of smoke it belches out is alarming. Customer service has been contacted once again. This time they have responded better and say a brand new unit is on the way. I hope it's true, they really seem like they want to stand behind their product and it seems so well built to me. Hopefully mine was just a fluke since I can't seem to find any information online of other people's units failing.

Update: after waiting and complaining via email we got a response saying how sorry they are and it's just Tim Frank and his wife trying to make this product happen. They are standing behind the product and really wanting to make things right. I received my brand new wavebox and it works great. It actually works better now that the cooking "rack" is porcelain, allowing a more uniform heating. As a side note, I took my first unit apart and was impressed with the construction of the unit. Hoping that the new unit will provide me with many more hot lunches. I'm trying to change my rating to a higher one but apparently cannot with Amazon.

Attention tailgaters, boaters, outdoor adventurers, and road trippers--theres no need to rough it when the WaveBox Original portable AC/DC microwave comes along. Measuring a compact 15 inches wide by 10 inches deep by 11 inches high and weighing just 14 pounds, this go-anywhere unit provides both efficient heating and convenient cooling service for the comforts of home anywhere. To microwave, simply choose from one of the three power options: AC with a standard electrical outlet, a DC direct clip to a 12-volt car or boat battery, or a DC connection to a 12-volt vehicle power outlet rated at 20 amps or greater. With AC or DC direct, the microwave performs as powerfully as many non-portable microwaves; with the DC power outlet theres a little less power, but its still great for reheating meals, warming coffee, or heating convenience foods.
Easy to use, the WaveBox has three preset cook buttons and generous cooking space that accommodates reheatable containers, cups and mugs. It also comes with a soft-sided cooler bag that fits inside the WaveBox and keeps items cool for up to five hours. Not the type to stop when conditions get a little rough? Neither is the WaveBox. With a reinforced ABS plastic casing, heavy-duty luggage handle, and non-slip rubberized legs its ready for hard work and active lifestyles. And its stylish too! The fun retro design looks great on a picnic bench or in a sailboat galley and comes in a choice of four striking colors: Pearl, Cherry, Cobalt, and Midnight. The WaveBox includes a removable 3-foot AC cord, 9-foot DC cables with alligator clamps, and a 5-foot DC power outlet cord. Cooking space dimensions are 10 inches wide by 7 inches deep by 6 inches high. One-year limited warranty.
