(More customer reviews)Okay, it's working now. And it is a great oven. Really it is. I hope I never have to deal with Fisher Paykel customer service again though. Read more to see why I feel that way....
My oven doesn't work properly. They don't know why. They want to just swap parts again and again. They won't tell me their plan of action. What I thought would be a great oven is the worst oven of my life.
I believe my oven is fixed. Turned out it was wired incorrectly when it was manufactured. It took a lot of effort on our part but we finally got a knowledgeable repair person who figured it out. Bless his heart, I am making him cookies. I give Fisher Paykel very low marks on customer service. They have been impossible to communicate with and not very cooperative. It is annoying to spend lots of time on hold hearing about their great customer service and then not get any of that supposed customer service.
I have hopes that it will be a good oven now. I pray I will never have to deal with Fisher Paykel "customer service" again.
I credit the actual repair to the local company service manager. He was great.

Fiesta 5-Piece Place Setting Review

(More customer reviews)These are well-designed, durable dishes, but the darker colors do tend to show scratches. When stacked, the rough bottom of one plate can scratch the plate beneath it. This is a problem with the newer style Fiesta more than the "vintage" Fiesta which had more glaze on the bottom, and a problem with new dishes more than those which have been through the wash many times. When stacking these dishes in the cupboard, especially when they are brand new, you might want to put coffee filters between the plates to minimize scratching.

The black areas of the plates, mugs heat up incredibly hot (we've had several people burned warming up items on these) Even dishwasher use has caused deep cracks in the plates...maybe the glaze isn't watertight. (?) The shape is great, BUT they chip and crack so easily just with moderate use. I have service for 12, and its the same thing with all of the sets. Very breakable. Okay if you want to hand wash and use occasional. Definitely Not for everyday use.

(More customer reviews)This thing appears to have been designed by someone who's never actually owned a fridge. The shelves don't actually FIT anything! The only place there's room for anything taller than an Odwalla bottle (like, juice or milk or water pitchers or gallons of anything!) is in the door. There's no real space for condiments bigger than a small jelly jar without taking up valuable shelf space in the main compartment. The fridge part is tiny and the freezer part is oversized (3 big drawers).
The egg container holds 8 eggs. Not 6, not 12. 8. Who buys 8 eggs?
The fridge itself works great, but I seriously have issues fitting all my food in it. And I'm a single girl. I can only imagine more than 1 person trying to put food into this- what a nightmare!

Anchor Hocking Presence 5-Piece Tablemates Set Review

The sugar bowl is cute, but the creamer spout is malformed and off-center and the butter dish is difficult to use. BonJour Hugo 8-Cup Unbreakable French Press, Black Review

(More customer reviews)I owned two Bodum French presses and broke - and replaced - the glass
carafes for both of them. And then I broke them both again (always in the
sink, always trying to wash them quickly in the morning so I could just get
some caffeine into me!) So I thought I'd give this model a try because my
Bialetti is a pain first thing in the morning (but otherwise great for
impressing guests.) ;-)
Am I ever glad I got this! The BonJour is superior to my old presses in so
many ways:
First, obviously, it won't break when I wash it. I love the flat bottom -
none of that four-legged-metal-base tippiness in the sink or on the counter.
And the fat rubber ring on the bottom? It's removeable - it's just there to
insulate your pot and keep it stable on the table.
I was concerned when I read elsewhere that the filter on these models
couldn't be taken apart for cleaning. With my Bodum presses, grounds would
always get lodged between the screen and the metal frame that held it in
place - really icky if you didn't unscrew them and wash the plate, screen,
and stem each time (a major pain - probably why my dirty pot remained
unwashed until I needed it the next morning, and... well, you know where
that led.)
Well, on the BonJour, grounds never get into the screen - the plunger has a
rubber rim that keeps everything down below, where it belongs, and the edges
of the screen are sealed. A quick swish in soapy water and you're
finished... no reassambly required. (In reading the previous review, about
the plastic screen pins giving way, I'd just suggest using minimal pressure
when pushing the plunger down, and making sure the screen's rubber rim is
wet before inserting it into the pot, as the directions indicate - that'll
put less stress on those pins, I think.)
With my Bodums, the screen/plunger would remain about 1/2" above the base of
the pot when fully "plunged". Because of this, the grounds would all slosh
to the side of the spout when you were pouring, and a lot of coffee or tea
would remain in the base behind the dam of grounds. You'd have to roll the
pot from side to side to get the remaning coffee out, invariably spilling as
much as you gained. The BonJour's plunger goes all the way to the base, so
pouring is much easier - no dam of grounds to block the liquid.
The BonJour also has a fine sediment screen at the top of the pot (you can
bypass it if you'd like) which means NO floaties in your coffee or tea. And
I mean FINE - it's not like the silly, wide grate on the Bodum, which was no
help at all.
This is much lighter than the same-sized Bodum, and the handle is very wide
and comfortable to hold (it feels rubberized and won't slip in your hand).
And you can't beat the price.
If I ever DO break or otherwise damage this one (I have heard you can put
them in the microwave but I'm not taking any chances - similarly, I don't
put rolling-boiling water in, but add it just before it boils or wait for it
to cool a bit after, to avoid any melting problems), then for SURE I am
going to get another BonJour.
Of course, as with ALL French presses, when they say 8 "cups", they mean
espresso cups; this holds about 3 American mugs, or 32 oz. / 4 measuring
cups at the top of the black rim. Someday they'll get that standardized for
us!

Pros-
Cost, you really cant get a single pot for the price on Amazon for this set.
Non-stick surface
Good weight/quality
Cons -
The large stock pot doesn't seem to be as thick or heavy duty as the other pots/pans.
Lids are kind of thin, I would think the might get banged up some.
Long ship time from amazon approximately 2+ weeks. They tell you that up front.
Overall - Again I'm trying to be fair, if your expecting some show pieces for you kitchen to display these probably aren't for you. If you want a nice working set of pots and pans you can't beat these for the price.Update 12/08- Since my review the price doubled on the Nordic Ware set. What was a great deal at $50 is just so-so at $100ish. Still a decent set, just not sure you couldn't piece together something else for the price range.

(More customer reviews)I have this one in the blue color and used it about 3 times in the oven. The second time it got a hairline crack and now I baked fish in it at 350 and there is a blacker hairline crack. Of course I'm afraid it will crack in half the next time I use it.
I thought I was getting a better quality for the price since I was afraid of the Pyrex which had bad reviews. But I will not buy this brand again.

CorningWare French White 8-Piece Casserole Set Review

Ok, they're corningware, so you'll know they work great, but if I was buying them again, I'd find ones with handles. When you have 2.5 quarts of casserole, that's a heavy dish. Now try to pick it up out of the oven when it has no handles! It's difficult and awkward. On the other hand, they do look great sitting on the table.

AIMS 1000 Pure Sine Wave Power Inverter Review

(More customer reviews)We live where cold winters are expected and three-day power outages too common. Many residents have gasoline, propane, or diesel standby generators. We don't. Our radiant heating system relies on electricity for an oil furnace and water circulation, and it is nice to have refrigerator, TV and computers working. Some items may be sensitive to non-sine wave power.
Our Toyota Prius has a 202 volt "traction" battery as well as a 12-volt auxiliary battery that is kept charged by a DC-DC converter. The traction battery is kept charged by the internal combustion engine (ICE) optimized for such use. At rest (assuming the power switch is on) the computer monitors the state of charge (SOC) and other parameters, running the ICE to keep the traction battery charged to a satisfactory level (40 - 80%).
At present the inverter is in the Prius' cargo area hard-wired to the auxiliary battery terminals. There is a 120 amp fusible link in the Prius' circuit to the DC-DC converter, so it is advisable to limit current to the inverter to less than that. There is a 100-amp fusible link in the positive cable to the inverter but I plan to substitute a DC breaker and polarized plug-socket disconnect. In operation the car and inverter are turned on, and a heavy extension cord connected to the home heating system circuit though a switch that disconnects grid power to just that system (otherwise hardwired to the grid). Other appliances are connected via extension cords. In addition to making sure that total connected label wattage is below 1,000, AC amperage draw is sometimes monitored with an inline meter (keep below 8.5). The Prius is in our garage with an exhaust hose to the outside away from windows and doors (and we have a CO2 monitor in our living area). The ICE goes on to maintain SOC and at least one internal temperature, and we stay warm, entertained, and on-line! To prove it could be done, we have used the inverter to power an electric weed whacker along our private road! This set-up won't run anything requiring 220v (water well, electric range, dishwasher, etc.) nor typical laser printers, microwave ovens, etc.

My favorite concoction is a before-bedtime (and apres-cross-country ski)concoction of hot cocoa, toppped with froth, sprinkled lightly with cinnamon and/or nutmeg. (For sweetener, I sometimes stir a thimble-full of Splenda into the froth.)
I like my coffee straight up - dark and black - but I've enjoyed a froth toppping now and then.
The inventors wisely include a long-handled sturdy plastic spoon. I understand that a metal spoon can chip or even crack the glass tube.
Highly recommended!

Anchor Hocking Oven Basics 5 Quart Baking Dish, Crystal Clear Review

(More customer reviews)I received this dish as a wedding present six years ago and I've used it about once a month ever since. It worked well, though sometimes it would stain around the top edges (which were not completely smooth) and I couldn't get it completely clean no matter what I did. A couple days ago it was on our kitchen counter when our cat jumped up there and somehow knocked it off and it hit our linoleum floor and basically exploded. It only fell about three feet to the floor, but it shattered into at least a thousand pieces, all of which were sharp and created countless scrapes and gouges in the flooring. Luckily none of us were in the kitchen at the time, but some of the pieces of glass even flew over 10 feet into our living room, so the cleanup took forever.
Bottom line: it works well, but make sure it never drops onto the floor.
